Hippu the mouse invites a homeless dog to share with him the simple pleasures of everyday life. Portrayed in bold, graphic colours, in red and black, with cut-out shapes on a cream background and the text in red capital letters, it still feels as fresh and contemporary today as it did on first publication in 1967.
Written and illustrated by Oili Tanninen, one of Finland’s most beloved creators of children’s literature, including the Nunnu series, and translated into English for the first time by Dr Emily Jeremiah for Tate Publishing, Hippu is a lovely, gentle tale of friendship and helping others.
